Hope arises from the involuntary human need to function effectively in the face of fear and setbacks. George E. Vaillant, M.D. research psychiatrist, and professor at Harvard, where he directed the university’s famous seven-decade longitudinal study of adult development. In his book Spiritual Evolution – How We Are Wired for Faith, Hope and Love, he writes, “Hope reflects the capacity for one’s loving, lyrical, limbic memory of the past to become attached to the memory of the future. I need to harness your whole brain, not just your speech center–to harness your ‘heart,’ not just your intellect.” Sharon Paige will lead the service.
